Problem: High Water Level in Salt Tank
Check the drain hose
A blocked or kinked drain hose can stop water from draining during regeneration. Clear any blockages and run a manual regeneration cycle.
If your Tapworks water softener is not working properly, this troubleshooting guide covers the most common issues and how to fix them. These simple checks can help restore your system and avoid unnecessary repair costs.
Check the drain hose
A blocked or kinked drain hose can stop water from draining during regeneration. Clear any blockages and run a manual regeneration cycle.
Check the power supply
Ensure the plug is switched on
Test the socket with another device
Check fuse and connections
A faulty transformer may also cause loss of power
Test your water hardness
Use a hardness test kit to test the Tapworks system. Take a sample from a softened water tap (e.g. bathroom tap):
Check the bypass valve position
If the bypass valve is open, water will not pass through the softener:
Easyfit bypass kit → Handle should feel smooth for soft water
Inspect the drain hose
A kinked or blocked drain hose will prevent regeneration, causing hard water within days.
Test if your water is still soft
Tapworks water softeners are highly efficient, so salt usage may be low even when working correctly. Check water is flowing through the softener, this will be indicated on the display when a softened water tap is turned on.
Check the drain hose for blockages
If the drain hose is kinked or blocked, the system cannot regenerate properly.
Ensure valves are correctly set
Incorrect valve positions can stop water flowing through the unit:
